The Consulate Midtown Brings French Luxury And Fine Dining To NYC
This past June, I was lucky enough to be invited to get an inside look at The Consulate’s newest location in Midtown and experienced one of the most wonderful dinners I’ve had in New York yet. The restaurant adds a modern yet traditional twist to French American dining paired with impressive service, stunning décor, and a delectable menu — all of which exceeded every expectation I had prior to my visit.
After being greeted immediately upon arrival by their hostess and a manager, I and my party were brought up the charming spiral staircase to a stunning second dining room that took my breath away with every turn. The French-inspired architecture was intricately detailed and beautifully executed on both the exterior and interior of the restaurant that created an upscale, yet relaxing ambiance for any occasion. From the design and furnishing and peaceful music to the soft lighting, the overall atmosphere made for a pleasantly tranquil experience overall perfect for everything from a girls' night out, date night, or a solo night on the town.
We were quickly greeted by our server Javier who offered water, warm towelettes, and offered cocktails, and wine right away. They had an impressive menu with a wide variety of food choices and an extensive list of beverages with a wide variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices alongside appetizer, entrée, and dessert choices of all kinds. I started with the Larisa mocktail — raspberry puree, lemon juice, honey syrup, and soda — which was beautifully made and very flavorful.
The Meal
We then ordered a mushroom flatbread for the table while I had the French onion soup. Both appetizers were mouthwatering and perfectly sized for sharing. As someone who is a huge French onion fan, I could’ve eaten this and this alone and been completely satisfied. It was comforting, satisfying, and chocked full of flavor that had me excited for the next course.
For my main entrée, I ordered the 8oz filet mignon with mashed potatoes while the rest of my party ordered the steak frites — hangar steak and peppercorn sauce — with French fries. All of our entrees were perfectly cooked, needed no additional sauces — although they offer many on the menu including bordelaise, béarnaise, blue cheese, and green peppercorn — and complemented their suggested sides amazingly.
We ended the night with the bread pudding and crème brûlée topped with strawberries (the best I’ve ever had, btw!) which both were an appropriate size to serve as the finishing touch to the larger appetizers and well-sized entrees.
I have nothing but rave reviews for every aspect of this unparalleled dining experience and would highly recommend making The Consulate Midtown a must-visit dining establishment for everything from a girls' night out, date night, or a solo night on the town.
